I'm sorry. I'm afraid other responsibilities have been taking up all of my time recently. I have four weekly writing commitments now that add up to at least 30,000 words researched, outlined, written, revised, edited, formatted, and published every week. And yes, camp. And I've been seeing a therapist. And Xavier, and so on and it's all just excuses. I have the time.
The real reason I've let this wiki fall through is the same reason I left the RWBY Fanon community. I have anger issues that make conflict difficult to deal with productively. So even something as minor as discussing the relationship between Legends and Canon, or rejecting someone's page, becomes an unreasonable point of stress.
Basically, I'm a mess. And the way I've been running this wiki so far is bad for my personal health of mind long-term. Which leaves a few options. Someone else could take over as owner of the wiki. We could abandon the idea of strict rule altogether and become more of a collaborative fanfiction community.
I am sorry. I care about this wiki, and I want to figure out how I can be here healthfully. I had to uninstall Skype because I was getting spammed by scams and bots, so if you want to talk more extensively your best bet is Discord, where I'm almost always online. My username is @Xavier \Alex#6438
1. I totally understand issues getting in the way of life (okay, maybe not to your extent but somewhat) so that's understandable. 2. I honestly don't know what to do with this wiki, but I'll let everyone know this instant, I am not going to become owner. 3. Steve is already gone so there is no talking to him about any of this. 4. .... I don't know.
I guess we can all really think hard about it and come back at a later date to discuss what we've thought.... hopefully.
I have an idea for a new infobox. I think there should be an infobox template for groups or clans or such things. It could have boxes for Leaders, Date Fragmented, Eras, blah blah blah. Like Wookieepedia has.
The regular infobox has fields that could be used for that. Membership, Population, and a few others if memory serves. I might be able to add a field or two if there's something you really want included. But I specifically designed the main infobox to have a variety of fields that would allow it to apply in almost every circumstance where an infobox is needed. And a few of the fields have multiple meanings in different contexts, like Membership could mean the people who are members of the group, or the group that the person is a member of. So check to see if the info fields you want are already there, or if there's one you could reinterpret to be what you need. But yeah, if it comes to it, I can add a few fields for you.
Yeah... I left to be a counselor at a summer camp. I should have let everyone know at least, but I didn't, so the most I can really do is apologize. Sorry. Anyway after I got back I had no internet until basically a week or so ago. I've been reforging all my old ff.net and reddit connections and to be honest kind of dreading returning here because this is where I screwed up the most.
But I'm back now. Really, truly back, and fully able to contribute regularly again. Just give me the next day or so to catch up on everything y'all have done since and I'll be ready, assuming I'm still welcome.
Of course you're welcome. We were thinking of having Steve adopt the wiki because we didn't know why you left and if you'd ever return. But now that you're back and seem back for good we'd love to have you back as Founder. Welcome back, bossman ^.^
I went ahead and started working on my Mandalorian here. In case you don't want to ship him with Azula is fine with me, but I thought I'd just make him anyway. Maybe I'll write a fanfic with him and Jaeson, seeing that both have the same profession, but one has a stance in the Civil War.
He looks fine to me so far. He seems much more like he actually cares about the rebel cause than Katar. She's pretty much using it as an excuse to kill more people. Also it's a big "screw you" to her imperial creators. It'll be interesting to see how much they clash on that note.
Also, sorry for not responding sooner. Yesterday was busy, What with a deceptively complicated new RWBY and all. I'll probably still be working with that episode for a fair bit of today. I'll try to be more present though, at least answering messages and keeping an eye on wiki activity.
Sounds good. 2 BBY/ABY would be the best range in my opinion. Maybe they're trying to sabotage an imperial excavation of an ancient alien structure. That way we could tie in some Indiana Jones-ish booby traps and such.
Crap. Sorry. I lost my posting streak and then decided to take a break for a day or two and then found Reddit and... yeah. Thanks for bringing me back. We should talk about your last post though because I'm pretty sure we're not on the same page about some things. I'll be on chat as much as I can be for the rest of the day.
Well, using persuasion as an example, there's a difference between being able to make small animals hear noises that aren't there and controlling the minds and thoughts of an entire planet full of people. The limit is exactly what it sounds like. It's the most that they are capable of at the height of their power.
See, there's the other Star Wars Fanon out there and I checked it out. They do have a larger community. To be fair, this one hasn't been around long, but I feel like that Fanon will get more newcomers than us because it's more recognized. But they don't have a Roleplaying board or system for it.
So what if we reached out to them and sorta advertised us as the Roleplay-oriented Star Wars Fanon? They could port OCs and pages without having to necessarily change them that much, unless they're not accepted. It would benefit both Wikis to be affiliated, in my opinion.
I'm having trouble imagining any way of introducing ourselves that doesn't make us seem like competition. If we say that we're mostly a roleplay wiki than that's being dishonest. If we try to communicate our objective of the singular unified Fanon universe then they'll assume that we think we're better than them.
They've been around for years, so they're not going to accept the new guys easily. I agree that it would help both wikis to have some interaction. But I don't see how to approach that goal without starting an interwiki war.
Hmmm... Well I'm having a hard time thinking about how else to get people to join in this wiki. I just thought that we could find other Star Wars fans who want to RP by reaching out to the older Fanon.
I have a character on the Fallout Roleplay Wiki who's also on the main Fallout Fanon, Tranquillity Lane. I mostly keep to the Roleplay wiki because I like to RP more than I write fan fiction. Bit like here and RWBY Fanon.
Well I've been trying to convince a few of my friends to join up. If we can spread it socially that would be pretty much ideal, although difficult.
As far as portraying it as a roleplay wiki, that would be fine, if we were actually just a roleplay wiki. But we have a lot more overlap than that with the other SW Fanon. On top of that, misrepresenting our wiki is easily detectable to anyone who actually tries to RP here. The review system makes the true nature fairly obvious. I'm worried that false advertising would only make the backlash even worse.
I think you're right that we do have to find a way to grow. I also think that the other wiki will find out about us eventually and it would be better if we controlled the circumstances. I'm just not sure that two birds with one stone is the way to go here. Does that make sense?
Well we can portray us as a Roleplay wiki, just with certain criteria if they want to, and also for fan fiction. We wouldn't go up and say, "Hey! Wanna RP? Then come on over! Just make sure you read the fine print." That's what people would attack us for.
If we went straight out and told them we have guidelines and rules for you to RP here that are very simple; "Follow in line with Canon", don't 1-up Yoda and characters who are established to be the best, and make sense in your articles, then people may not all jump in, but it'll save tantrums if they know exactly what this Fanon is about. I see it as standing apart from the older wiki, just with the door open to those users.
I get why you want to avoid wiki war, cause nobody likes that, we've just gotta present ourselves as in a professional-minded tone. If the admins or members there hate us and say "Screw you, we were here first," then that's their fault.
And I say admins, cause, from experience, admins can sometimes abuse their position because of pride and being unaccepting to new things because they're in a position of power. You seem pretty tame and clear headed as an admin. We wouldn't be the aggressors.
Well, I had actually given that some thought before. The decision is entirely one of staff as duty vs staff as hobby. If being staff isn't a job, there's no reason to kick them off unless they actually do something wrong. On RWBY Fanon it's treated like a job. If people don't work then they get fired.
That's always seemed a bit off to me. This is all supposed to be fun for us, right? Why make it feel like a job when it's ultimately much more like volunteer work? They don't ban you from a homeless shelter because you don't show up to serve chili on Wednesday.
I'd much rather have a staff of thirty people who are on once a week as opposed to a staff of four who are massively overworked and don't enjoy being on the wiki anymore. You have to admit, staff morale is a huge issue on RWBY Fanon. I think a big part of that is the constant looming threat of expulsion.
Also worth noting, these are all the same reasons as why I refused to remove you as staff when your account was hacked. I'm willing to discuss it further if you still think something needs to be done. I just thought I'd explain why I didn't do anything already.
Well... I had a "reason" to not do anything here (even if it was fake because.... stupid friend), but if Chris hasn't said why he's not doing anything with this Wikia.... we kind of need to talk to him to see if he still wants to be a part of this.
It's certainly a huge improvement. The personality section is much more representative and the history is far clearer in a few places. You could still briefly summarize the stuff that's happened to her during the time of the original trilogy. Linking to the RP is great, but it's no substitute for communicating the basic events. Something like:
"...several events spanning to Cato Namodia. The former imperial, Jaeson, joined her smuggling organization and worked alongside her for the next year or so. After many months of working together, the two were forced to realize their feelings for one another when they were temporarily stranded on an ancient Sith world.
Later, the couple rescued a young Twi'lek from a deathstick addiction, much like the one Oola had escaped herself. They adopted the girl as their daughter not long afterwards..."
Now I don't know all the details. I might be getting some stuff wrong. I'm almost certainly missing some important stuff from later in the RP you two are working through now. But it's a start at least.
Anyway, like I said, it's much better. There's still room for improvement, but then there always is. Ultimately what is "enough" is totally up to you. I'm not gonna start requiring ABY backstory until episode vii is out.
